GRASSROOTS ACCELERATOR

MARCH-AUGUST 2019
In recognition of the critical role that Indonesian women play in environmental and climate leadership, both nationally and internationally, and the acute support they need to grow their impact, we launched the Women’s Earth Alliance Grassroots Accelerator in Indonesia in 2019. Mother Jungle partnered with the Women Earth alliance to empower a group of Indonesian women leaders who are out front-fiercely protecting our water, food, air, forests, land, sacred sites, indigenous lifeways, and future generations. By investing in these leaders to scale their solutions for change, we created the conditions for an inclusive, safe, and thriving world, starting in the communities and rippling outward. The program focused on creating a connection between the Indonesian women leaders and amplifying the impact of these leaders’ critical works to protect the earth from environmental destruction and climate threats, making the earth a better place for future generations to come.
As an Indonesian based organisation we felt the urge to join this movement. As the fifth largest producer of greenhouse gases, Indonesia’s emissions rose 3% last year, nearly erasing the progress that several other nations made towards limiting the average global warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius over the next 12 years. Women in Indonesia experience the brunt of these climate disruptions and have therefore stepped forward as key leaders in designing solutions to critical issues, such as palm oil extraction, plastic pollution, and sea level rise.
Bali, 22 July 2019 – The cohort of 22 women environmental leaders from 12 provinces in Indonesia came together this week on the Island of Bali for an immersive experiential learning and knowledge-share program. This was part of the 2019 Grassroots Accelerator Program that also happened online for 4 months.
This accelerator program 2019 was organized for the first time in Indonesia in partnership with WEA, For Good and Ranu Welum. The program is made possible through Spell & the Gypsy Collective’s 1% for the Planet commitment to WEA’s programs as well as LUSH Cosmetics, a B Corp sustainable business.
